Italy Second Rehearsal

On a day where we've seen strong efforts from most of the participants on the stage, Italy's performance this afternoon has left me distinctly underwhelmed.

In the year of Greta Thunberg, it is unsurprising to see a number of entries in 2019 like Marta Viola's sharing a message of climate change. La Voce Della Terra translates to The Voice Of The Earth. The issue will be the open invite for direct comparison with other entries with a similar meaning. In that regard, there isn't a hook to make the voter or jury remember this one.

Italy set the competition alight in 2014 when they emerged victorious in their first year of entering. The problem with that is having only one direction to move in the ranking table in the years to follow. Their only other notable finish was a third place in 2016.

David Webster will be reporting live from rehearsals throughout the day on Gateway 97.8 ( For UK commentary with ESC Insight's Ewan Spence and Ben Robertson, tune in to Castlepoint FM on Sunday 24th November from 15:00 GMT.
